It’s about to get loud around here. The 29th Annual Cruisin’ Ocean City Car Show rumbles into town May 16 – 19 for four legendary days of full-throttle fun. Gearheads from all over the country and Canada will bring and admire more than 3,000 hot rods, classic cars, street machines and custom trucks to Ocean City, Maryland.
For many people, Cruisin’ Ocean City is an annual ritual—a chance to reunite and talk shop with friends who share their passion and to make new connections. The entire town of Ocean City transforms into a car lover’s paradise, with spectacular vehicles as far as the eye can see and car shows and special events popping up all over. Much of the action takes place at the OC Convention Center Parking Lot and the Inlet Parking Lot.
The leading brands in the car business will also be on hand offering their latest innovations and favorite products during the Manufacturers Midway at the Inlet Parking Lot. Meanwhile, the Convention Center will host a Swap Meet as well as various vendors inside and out selling all kinds of merchandise.
Here’s a look at what else is coming down the road for Cruisin’ OC this spring:
Morning traffic on the Boardwalk usually means a mass of joggers or bikes out to beat the midday heat. For the annual Cruisin’ Ocean City weekend, the Boardwalk turns into a showcase where proud car owners show off their rides during a daily parade. These parades are among the most popular events of the weekend, and they draw big crowds starting on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings starting at 8:00 a.m. The cars roll out of North Division Street downtown and proceed to the Inlet Parking Lot, where the parade ends and the day’s activities begin.
Hitting the strip
Cruisin’ Ocean City will return this year to the US 13 Dragway, just a quick drive north to Delmar, Delaware. Catch all the rubber-burning action with the No Prep Shoot-Out and other thrilling races, along with car shows, special guests and much more.
Cars aren’t the only big attractions during Cruisin’ Ocean City. This year, country music legend Joe Diffie will kick off the festivities performing his catalog of hits at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center on Thursday, May 16. Diffie has five number-one songs to his credit, including “Pickup Man,” “Third Rock from the Sun” and “If the Devil Danced (in Empty Pockets).” Joe Diffie’s opening act is local favorite Jackson Dean, winner of the Maryland Music Award for Best Songwriter and Best New Breakout Artist. For ticket information, call Ticketmaster at 1-800-551-SEAT or visit them online. Fans of the Dukes of Hazzard can celebrate the iconic show’s 40th anniversary with none other than Daisy Duke herself, Catherine Bach. She’ll appear at the Ocean City Convention Center on Friday from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, she’ll stop by the Beachside Inlet during those same hours. In addition, Ryan Evans from the hit show Counting Cars will greet fans on Friday at the Beachside Inlet from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Ocean City Convention Center.
People put lots of long hours and hard work into their cars. And at Crusin’ Ocean City, many are rewarded for their efforts. There are opportunities to enter numerous contests and friendly competitions. On Sunday at the Beachside Inlet, during the Grand Finale Awards, attendees and participants will receive over 500 trophies and other honors, along with more than 3,000 giveaways.
