Fourth of July

Top 4 Reasons to Celebrate July 4th at the Beach

Red, White & You | July 4th in Ocean City, MD

What could be more all-American than spending July 4th at the beach in Ocean City, MD? Recently named one of the Top 10 Travelers’ Choice Beaches in the U.S. by TripAdvisor (the only one on the list not in Florida or Hawaii), Ocean City is known for its clean beach, family-friendly atmosphere, and multitude of activities and events. Read on to find out why you need to spend your holiday here:

  1. Freedom

Celebrate your freedom in the place that makes you feel free! There’s nothing like having the sun on your face and sand between your toes to help you appreciate the freedom we have here in the U.S.A.  Enjoy a moment of solitude as you listen to the waves and remember those who have fought for our freedom and continue to defend it today.

  2. Fireworks

Bring a chair or a blanket and you’ve got the best seat in the house for fireworks in Ocean City, MD. Fireworks displays will be held at several locations around town on July 4th. Visitors staying in the downtown area will be dazzled all along the Boardwalk as fireworks light up the night in the area of North Division Street at 9:30 p.m. If you’re staying in North Ocean City, then Northside Park (126th St.) is the place to be. This scenic 58-acre recreation area has plenty of grassy areas to view fireworks over the bay. In mid-town Ocean City, Seacrets will have its own fireworks display at approximately 9 p.m. Relax in the sand with a drink in your hand as live music plays across multiple stages and fireworks are shot from a barge on the bay. Guests staying in Ocean Pines can also watch fireworks on July 3rd at 9:15 p.m. at nearby Berlin Falls Park in quaint Berlin, MD. This classic event also features activities and vendors across the street at the Burley Oak Brewing Company.

  3. Festivities

The Ocean City area keeps the party going all day long with fun entertainment and activities. Start the day at 8 a.m. in Ocean Pines at the Freedom 5K, a family-friendly race around Veterans Memorial Park to benefit “Athletes Serving Athletes.” After the race, participants can stay for the Ocean Pines July 4th Celebration from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with waterslides, carnival games, and concessions. Assateague Island State Park will join in the fun with a 4th of July Bike Parade from the Ranger Station to the Nature Center, followed hot dogs and prizes for the best bike decorations (call 410-641-2918 for info). Finally, guests can finish the day with free live entertainment taking place prior to the Ocean City fireworks displays at 8:00 p.m. The Northside Park celebration will feature “Mike Hines and The Look” (high energy pop, hip hop, R & B, Motown and more), while the downtown celebration on N. Division St. will feature “Triple Rail Turn” (modern country).

  4. Food

What’s a birthday party without the food? Ocean City offers ten miles of restaurants, from fine dining to casual cuisine. For some fresh Eastern Shore crabs, stop by Hooper’s Crab House in West Ocean City for a classic crab-picking experience or a bushel of crabs to eat at home. If you’re looking for a fun and family-friendly island atmosphere, check out Fishtales in the downtown area of Ocean City (21st St. and the bay) for delicious appetizers, entrees and drinks. At 1:00 p.m., Fishtales will also host contestants competing for $1,500 and the title of “Top Dog” at their annual Hot Dog eating contest. When it comes to nightlife, check out Macky’s Bayside Bar & Grill’s Red-White-Blue themed party at 10:00 p.m. on 54th St.
