5 Benefits of Visiting Ocean City, Maryland, in the Off-Season

Have you ever dreamt about having the beach all to yourself? It’s not necessarily wishful thinking! Most travelers know that Ocean City is great during the summer months, but not many people realize how fantastic it can be during the rest of the year. The weather cools down, but the different seasons also add a variety of benefits to your stay. You can take scenic, serene strolls on the beach and pick up seashells, avoid road traffic, and escape the crowds that the summertime attracts. Plus, the all-around slower pace is perfect for relaxing retreats and extended getaways. No matter when you visit, you can count on Vantage Ocean City Rentals to help you make the most of it. Browse our properties today and find your happy place!

The Top 5 Reasons to Visit Ocean City, Maryland, in the Off-Season

1. Fewer Crowds

One of the top benefits of going to Ocean City in the off-season is that there are fewer people at the beach, boardwalk, and local attractions. That means you can take your time and enjoy your favorite things to do without dealing with crowds or feeling rushed. If you’re seeking retail therapy, you won’t have any trouble finding excellent spots for shopping in Ocean City, MD. There are options for everyone, from small shops like Ish Boutique and South Moon Under to the Outlets Ocean City, which offers big-name brand items at major discounts.

Are you ready for a bite to eat? There are several local restaurants that offer daily lunch and dinner specials, such as OC Wasabi, Harrison’s Harbor Watch, and Harborside Bar & Grill. Be sure to check out Fishtales next to Bahia Marina on 18th St. It’s open on weekends and features a beautiful, bayfront beach with a playground for the kids. Off-season fishing trips are also available there on the weekends. Reel in some impressive rockfish and enjoy your own freshly caught meal!

Tip: The off-season is the perfect time to search for seashells as they wash up onto the shore, especially after storms. Rare marine animals also make an appearance every now and then, like migrating seals that stop to rest on the beach.

2. Cooler Weather

Of course, if you’re a fan of milder temperatures, visiting Ocean City in the off-season is a clear choice. Fall and spring still offer decently warm, but not too hot, days with those cool, coastal breezes. It’s the ideal environment to spend a day outside enjoying your favorite outdoor activities without having to take all those breaks to duck inside for shade. You might need a warm jacket in the wintertime, but all of the festivities at Northside Park and holiday cheer throughout Ocean City is sure to warm your heart. Sipping on a cup of hot cocoa while you admire the display at the Winterfest of Lights helps, too!

3. Free Parking

Not only is it easier to find parking spots than in the summer, but parking is also completely free from November 1st through March 31st! Even though we’re happy to help you find the ideal Ocean City vacation rental within walking distance of your favorite activities and attractions, it doesn’t hurt being able to enjoy free parking if you’d like to mix it up and drive somewhere a little further away. It might seem like a minor benefit, but you’re sure to appreciate it at some of the more popular spots, especially in the downtown area of Ocean City, MD.

4. Boardwalk Bike Rides

While there are several regulations in place for riding a bike on the Ocean City Boardwalk in the summertime, the same rules aren’t enforced during the off-season. There are no restrictions for bike riding on the boardwalk from the Tuesday after Labor Day until the Friday before Memorial Day. Head down to the boardwalk for a morning bike ride and stop in at your favorite cafe for a cup of coffee. Or, enjoy a romantic bike ride with your sweetheart in the evening!

Tip: Springfest and Sunfest are the only exceptions in the off-season — you’re only allowed to ride on the boardwalk from 2:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

5. Pet-Friendly Beaches

What’s a family vacation without Fido? Another wonderful benefit of visiting in the off-season is that you can bring your loyal, furry, four-legged pal along with you on the beach! Dogs are welcome to stroll the beach and boardwalk with you from October 1st through April 30th, as long as you keep them on a leash. They’ll love exploring the coastline with you! We even have a variety of pet-friendly vacation rentals that are perfect for your getaway with the whole family.
