Sunset Island

What’s New at Sunset Island?

Sunset Island: A Premier Vacation Spot is Now Better than Ever

Sunset Island, a private vacation community at 67th Street on the bay side, was already one of Ocean City’s most upscale spots for vacationers.  Now, with a three-year construction project complete, this enclave has even more to offer the discerning traveler.

Marisol’s Market & Cafe (with Beach Shuttle!)

New this season is Marisol’s Market & Café. This combination deli, café, grab ‘n go market and convenience store features Boar’s Head deli sandwiches, Starbuck’s coffee, Hershey’s ice cream and much more. In the morning, stop by for a donut, bagel, pastry or breakfast sandwiches. Later in the day, grab a fresh sandwich or salad. And any time pick up beer, wine or convenience items. Don’t forget to ask about the new Marisol’s Beach Shuttle, which offers daily and weekly passes for easy transportation to and from the beach.

(As Always) Sunset Island’s First-Class Amenities

Some things haven’t changed. You can still enjoy the pools, the clubhouse, the fitness center and the spectacular views of the bay, wetlands, or quaint island atmosphere. Be sure to take a stroll past the interactive fountains or along bayfront beaches on Sunset Island’s shoreline walking path. And enjoy the convenient location of being at 67th Street. Don’t forget, Ocean City’s famous boardwalk, challenging golf courses and great restaurants are still nearby.  Below are a few of the highlights of vacationing in Sunset Island:

  • Huge variety of condos, townhomes, and single family residences with 3-6 bedrooms – (click here for our entire inventory of Sunset Island Vacation Rentals)
  • Gated private bayfront community surrounded by water on 3 sides
  • Indoor/outdoor pools (open seasonally)
  • Bayfront beaches (especially great for little ones who aren’t ready for the ocean)
  • Community clubhouse/library
  • On-site restaurant (The Landing – overlooks the bay)
  • State-of-the-art fitness center
  • Shoreline walking/biking path (around perimeter of the island)
  • Fishing/crabbing pier
  • Interactive fountains (that “dance” as you play in them)
  • Steps away from The Longboard Cafe, Sweetfrog, The Bonfire, Dead Freddie’s Island Grill, Rosenfeld’s Jewish Deli and many other great restaurants and shops

If you’ve enjoyed a vacation at Sunset Island before, come back and see what’s new. If you’ve never been to our private 37-acre island, you’re in for a treat.

And vacation memories that will last forever.

Assateague Island

OC’s Hidden Gem: Assateague Island

Escape to Island Life at Assateague

Looking to leave bustling Ocean City for the day? Take a trip across the Sinepuxent Bay Bridge and enjoy the island life! Just 10 miles south of Ocean City lays Assateague Island. At a quick glance, Assateague seems like any other state park with beautiful nature trails and an impressive nature center. However, this Island’s beaches are home to over 80 wild horses. While no one knows the true history of the “Assateague Ponies,” many myths have circulated – from being ship wrecked on the island to colonial farmers hiding the ponies from tax collectors. Yet, these ponies are just the beginning of the adventures in store at Assateague Island.

Delightful Day Trips

Just visiting the island for a day?  Stop by Assateague’s “Day‐Use” beach to enjoy pristine natural beauty and a variety of wildlife such as sika deer and waterfowl.  But a fair warning: with a full concession stand, qualified beach patrol, warm showers and bathrooms, you will never want to leave! Additionally, the state park offers 3 miles of multi-recreational beach that not only allows but encourages surfing, kayaking, and fishing. Open from 7:00 a.m. until sunset, in-state visitors pay $4 a person and out-of‐state visitors pay $6 a person for a day of fun.

Outstanding Overnight Stays

If one day is not enough for your family, check out the park’s 350 campsites, including pet-friendly areas.  Advanced reservations for campsites at ParkReservations.Maryland.gov are highly recommended, as these spots fill up fast.   In addition, Vantage has just added a new rental property to its inventory that is located directly across the Sinepuxent Bay from the island called Assateague Bay Retreat.  This expansive 4-BR, 4-BA, 5,000-SqFt, home is located on a beautifully-manicured 3-acre waterfront lot in the renowned golf community of Rum Pointe.  Completely luxurious inside and out, this pet-friendly property sleeps 14 and comes with lots of little extras such as kayaks, media room with gaming center, and beautiful views of the bay (and even the ocean from the top floor!)  While you’re here, be sure to check out all the wonderful activities available through the Assateague Island Visitor Center and the National Park Service that the whole family will enjoy:

  • Information sessions, including animal interactions
  • Kayaking tours
  • Paddleboard tours
  • Bird watching
  • Clamming, crabbing and fishing in the marina
  • Biking trails
  • Off‐road vehicle use
  • Junior beach patrol programs

So leave your worries behind and take a short drive from Ocean City to Assateague Island (10 miles) to see the wild ponies and enjoy a relaxing and adventurous island getaway.  Speak with a Vacation Coordinator at (410) 723-2002 or search over 500 vacation rentals of every size and budget at VantageOceanCity.com to reserve your perfect spot!

Fourth of July

Top 4 Reasons to Celebrate July 4th at the Beach

Red, White & You | July 4th in Ocean City, MD

What could be more all-American than spending July 4th at the beach in Ocean City, MD? Recently named one of the Top 10 Travelers’ Choice Beaches in the U.S. by TripAdvisor (the only one on the list not in Florida or Hawaii), Ocean City is known for its clean beach, family-friendly atmosphere, and multitude of activities and events. Read on to find out why you need to spend your holiday here:

  1. Freedom

Celebrate your freedom in the place that makes you feel free! There’s nothing like having the sun on your face and sand between your toes to help you appreciate the freedom we have here in the U.S.A.  Enjoy a moment of solitude as you listen to the waves and remember those who have fought for our freedom and continue to defend it today.

  2. Fireworks

Bring a chair or a blanket and you’ve got the best seat in the house for fireworks in Ocean City, MD. Fireworks displays will be held at several locations around town on July 4th. Visitors staying in the downtown area will be dazzled all along the Boardwalk as fireworks light up the night in the area of North Division Street at 9:30 p.m. If you’re staying in North Ocean City, then Northside Park (126th St.) is the place to be. This scenic 58-acre recreation area has plenty of grassy areas to view fireworks over the bay. In mid-town Ocean City, Seacrets will have its own fireworks display at approximately 9 p.m. Relax in the sand with a drink in your hand as live music plays across multiple stages and fireworks are shot from a barge on the bay. Guests staying in Ocean Pines can also watch fireworks on July 3rd at 9:15 p.m. at nearby Berlin Falls Park in quaint Berlin, MD. This classic event also features activities and vendors across the street at the Burley Oak Brewing Company.

  3. Festivities

The Ocean City area keeps the party going all day long with fun entertainment and activities. Start the day at 8 a.m. in Ocean Pines at the Freedom 5K, a family-friendly race around Veterans Memorial Park to benefit “Athletes Serving Athletes.” After the race, participants can stay for the Ocean Pines July 4th Celebration from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with waterslides, carnival games, and concessions. Assateague Island State Park will join in the fun with a 4th of July Bike Parade from the Ranger Station to the Nature Center, followed hot dogs and prizes for the best bike decorations (call 410-641-2918 for info). Finally, guests can finish the day with free live entertainment taking place prior to the Ocean City fireworks displays at 8:00 p.m. The Northside Park celebration will feature “Mike Hines and The Look” (high energy pop, hip hop, R & B, Motown and more), while the downtown celebration on N. Division St. will feature “Triple Rail Turn” (modern country).

  4. Food

What’s a birthday party without the food? Ocean City offers ten miles of restaurants, from fine dining to casual cuisine. For some fresh Eastern Shore crabs, stop by Hooper’s Crab House in West Ocean City for a classic crab-picking experience or a bushel of crabs to eat at home. If you’re looking for a fun and family-friendly island atmosphere, check out Fishtales in the downtown area of Ocean City (21st St. and the bay) for delicious appetizers, entrees and drinks. At 1:00 p.m., Fishtales will also host contestants competing for $1,500 and the title of “Top Dog” at their annual Hot Dog eating contest. When it comes to nightlife, check out Macky’s Bayside Bar & Grill’s Red-White-Blue themed party at 10:00 p.m. on 54th St.

Benefits of the Off-Season in Ocean City, MD

Everyone knows how great Ocean City is during the summer months, but not many realize how fun it can also be during the off-season. The weather may be a bit chilly, but there is still plenty to do, such as weekly events, shopping, and tourist attractions. It’s a little bit like having the beach to yourself, with less traffic, fewer crowds, and an all-around slower pace.  Head down to the Boardwalk for a morning bike ride and stop in at your favorite breakfast shop for a cup of coffee.  Most Boardwalk shops and restaurants are open daily, and especially on weekends.  There are no restrictions for bike riding on the Boardwalk from the Tuesday after Labor Day until the Friday before Memorial Day (excluding Springfest and Sunfest weekends).  Parking is also free April 1st through October 31st.  Feel free to bring your pets along, as leashed dogs are welcome on the beach and Boardwalk from October 1st through April 30th.  (Browse our Pet-Friendly Rentals page to view homes that permit pets.)

Fantastic Dining, Shopping and Activities

Snow and sand do not mix, but there is just something about seeing Ocean City in all seasons of the year that is so peaceful and wonderful to experience. Beachcombers love the off-season since it’s the perfect time to search for seashells as they wash up onto the shore (especially after storms in the spring or fall).  It is also not unusual to see rare marine life make an appearance every now and then, such as migrating seals that stop to rest on the beach.  If retail therapy is what you seek, Ocean City offers a variety of great shopping options – from small shops like Ish Boutique and South Moon Under to The Tanger Outlets in West Ocean City, which features discount shopping at big name stores like American Eagle, Under Armour, and more.  Ready for a bite to eat?  There are many town favorite restaurants that offer daily lunch and dinner specials, such as OC Wasabi, Harrison’s Harbor Watch, and Harborside.  Be sure to check out Fishtales next to Bahia Marina on 18th St., which is open on weekends and features a beautiful bayfront beach with a playground for the kids.  Off-season fishing trips are also available there on the weekends. Reel in winner rock fish and enjoy your own freshly caught meal.

Budget-Friendly Vacation Rental Rates

Last, but not least, the best part about the off-season is low rental rates! Our best properties are waiting to offer you luxurious accommodations for a fraction of what it would cost in the summertime.  Here are some recommendations for awesome off-season getaways.

Sunset Island 6 Hidden Cove Way 2E – 3-BR/2-BA/Sleeps 8 – Escape to this quaint bayfront island off of 67th Street.  Located along the water, this upscale condo features peaceful bay views and access to first-class amenities including indoor/outdoor pools, a community clubhouse, private bayfront beaches, and more.
